The documentary exhibition “Benefactors and philanthropy in Bulgaria – between the ideal and the reality”, organized by the National Endowment Fund “13 Centuries Bulgaria” and the American Foundation for Bulgaria, was opened on July 10, 2015 in Gallery “Gabenski”, Tryavna.
The exposition presents the various forms of charity from the end of the 19th to the middle of the 20th century. Photos and documents bring to life the images of patriotic Bulgarians, who provided property and means to make “benefit” for the benefit of the people or their country. As a result of their generosity, schools, community centers, libraries and monuments are being built, hospitals, orphanages and lone elderly are being opened, scholarships are given for education, money for science and culture, for compatriots left outside the borders of the Fatherland. All these countries of the donation tradition are shown thematically in separate panels.
The authors of the exhibition are Assoc. Prof. Rositsa Stoyanova from the Institute of Historical Studies at BAS and Tsvetana Velichkova from the scientific archive of BAS. The initiative for its creation and financial security belongs to the American Foundation for Bulgaria and to the Bulgarian Donors’ Forum. The artistic design is the work of Konstantin Kotsev.
The idea is through the current exposition to revive the memory of this “Golden Page” of native history.
