The ‘Donated Artworks’ exhibition of the ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund presents twenty works—paintings, sculptures, and drawings—at the Ministry of Culture’s Sredets Gallery from 8 to 18 November 2022. What unites the exhibited works, created at various times by artists of different generations, is the fact that they were specifically donated for the purposes and tasks of the Fund.
Some were donated by the artists themselves. Among those who donated to the Fund were Atanas Katchamakoff (1898–1984), Bencho Obreshkov (1899–1970), Mihail Simeonov (1929–2021), Dimitar Kazakov – Neron (1933–1992), Greddy Assa (1954), Houben Tcherkelov (1970), Yuri Bukov (1947), Dragan Nemtsov (1935), Elza Goeva (1928), and members of the Committee of Culture, the Dimitrina and Ignat Kaneff family, Canada, and Elisabeth and Dr Herbert Schaffer, Germany.
Monographic studies, catalogues, articles by Bulgarian and foreign art historians, experts, journalists—including Dora Vallier, Aksinia Džurova, Bistra Rangelova, Georgi Lozanov, Witold Dalbor, and Harry Minetree—have been published about several of the artists. Brief quotations from their work are featured in the exhibition.
The team that prepared the exhibition has collected in a special folder material about the works, the artists, and the donors.
