On 14 November 2023, an exhibition of works by the Bulgarian artist Nikolay Maystorov opens at the Mission Gallery of the Bulgarian State Cultural Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The exposition features ‘Cervantes: Don Quixote’, a lithographic cycle based on texts by the world-famous Spanish philosopher and writer, Miguel de Unamuno (1864–1936).
The event is being held to celebrate the artist’s 80th birthday, and Spain’s 6-month Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The exhibition was organised by the ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund, with the kind support of the State Cultural Institute to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the Specialised Museum of Woodcarving and Icon Painting Art in Tryavna.
In 1994, Nikolay Maystorov donated 338 of his artworks to NEF ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’, wishing them to be exhibited at the Tryavna museum. They include 60 paintings from the ‘Cervantes: Don Quixote’ cycle based on Unamuno’s work; 147 on verses from Baudelaire’s ‘The Flowers of Evil’; 55 on biblical verses; 45 drawings on the Old Testament; and 22 on Solomon’s ‘Song of Songs’.
The exhibition runs until 26 November 2023.
