NEF ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ donated scores of opuses by Pancho Vladigerov to the National Music Academy in Sofia

On 10 April 2024, the ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund made a donation to the archive of the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music, to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the birth of the great Bulgarian composer, teacher, and conductor.

The donation included copies of three scores of Pancho Vladigerov’s opuses, hand-notated and signed with his personal stamp: those of ‘Zoya’s Song’, Op. 30, ‘Tsar Kaloyan’, an opera in three acts, composed by Vladigerov; and the ‘Officer’s Song’, Op. 13, ‘Dream Play’ by August Strindberg; and three songs from William Shakespeare’s ‘As You Like It’, Op. 26, translated by Hans Rothe.

The scores were part of a donation made in 1989 to NEF ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria by Bulgarian National Television’s LIK [Literature, Art, Culture] Department, which included 19 photographs of Bulgarian opera singer Nadia Kovacheva Fiandaca, and a playbill from a visit she made to the Netherlands.

Prof. Sava Dimitrov, DMA, Rector of the Prof. Pancho Vladigerov National Academy of Music, expressed his gratitude for the Fund’s valuable donation.
