In June 2023, Sofia City Art Gallery opened an exhibition dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Genko Genkov—one of the particularly interesting and significant painters who worked in the second half of the 20th century.
The ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund made a significant contribution to its realisation—the works were restored with the Fund’s financial support.
Genko Genkov (1923–2006) was born on 1 February in the village of Choba, Plovdiv region. He studied under Prof. Dechko Uzunov at the Academy of Arts. Genkov became a legend in Bulgarian art primarily for his exceptional sense of colour.
In 1972, he received the Order of Sts Cyril and Methodius 3rd class.
The artist departed this world on 3 March 2006 in Sofia.
