On 25 April 2024, the screening of ‘Rhesus’, a documentary, part of the ‘Archaeworld—Along the Route of the Great’ project, took place in the Prof. Vasil Gerov Hall. The film chronologically traces the construction of an ancient Thracian ship and its subsequent voyages. The series, directed by Atanas Dimitrov, includes another two films, titled ‘Palestin’ and ‘Archaeological Diary—the Golden’.
‘Archaeworld—Along the Route of the Great’ is the first professional Bulgarian project of experimental marine and field archaeology. This scientific discipline is a reliable modern method of recreating and promoting the past. The team of Proventus Film House Ltd. is charged with the goal of authentically reviving historical segments of culture: mythology, epos, drama, music, dance, crafts, arts of war, and ways of life, parts of the experience and traditions of Bulgarian sea and river shipping.
It examines written and visual sources and artefacts produced over a vast period—from the mid-4th millennium BC to the 12th century AD—as well as the contribution of Bulgarians who left lasting traces in world archaeology and history from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries.
