The European Day of Foundations and Donors is an occasion for the ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund to recall the story of the first donation it received.
On 11 May 1981, the greatest sculptor of the 20th century, Henry Moore, donated his bronze sculpture, ‘Helmet Head No. 6’, to Bulgaria through the Fund.
The sculpture was personally handed to Lord Goronwy-Roberts, the chairman of the British Honorary Committee by its creator at his estate in Much Hadham, at a commemoration of the 1,300th anniversary of the Bulgarian state,. Ambassador Kiril Shterev also attended the ceremony.
From May 1983 to October 1984, the sculpture was included in the exposition of the National Museum of History at the Courthouse, Sofia. In 1985, the Fund donated Henry Moore’s work to the National Gallery, where it is presently on display.
The ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund is grateful to all its donors.
