On 9 May 2025, the ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund made a donation to the Samokov Museum of History. A ceremony organised by the museum took place at the Sarafs’ House, the NEF ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ regional centre in the town.
The donation consisted of six handwoven woollen carpets, emblematic of the local colour and decoration of the Kotlen Carpet School. NEF ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ filled a significant gap in the textile collection of the museum, which preserves the rich cultural heritage of Chiprovtsi and Samokov carpets.
Dr Veselin Hadzhiangelov, Director of the Samokov Museum of History, expressed especial thanks for the Fund’s valuable donation and pointed out that the carpets were of high artistic value, fully preserved, and would become a significant part of the new exposition, ‘Samokov’s Urban Life and Photography’, for which the museum is preparing the Dospevski (Zograph) House in Samokov.
