On 13 November 2025, the National Association of Stenographers, Typists and Computer Operators received a donation from NEF ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ in connection with the 110th anniversary of the death of Slovene scholar Anton Beznešek (1854–1915).
As a linguist, journalist and shorthand expert, Anton Bezenšek was invited to Bulgaria to lay the foundations of the Bulgarian shorthand system, becoming the first stenographer to train several generations of Bulgarian intellectuals in this method of rapid writing. For his contribution, he was awarded an order of merit by Tsar Ferdinand. As a sign of respect, a monument to Bezenšek was erected in the city of Plovdiv.
On the occasion of the anniversary, a Slovenian delegation is visiting Bulgaria from 13 to 16 November 2025. According to their programme, the guests plan on paying tribute to Anton Beznešek at his grave in Sofia. The delegation is joined by the singers of the Anton Bezenšek Choir, who will perform in memory of their compatriot. This will be followed by a trip to the city of Plovdiv, as well as visits, in Sofia, to the National Gallery and Slavyanska Beseda Community Centrе, established in 1880.
The donation included 45 copies of the monographic study ‘Ivan Dimov’, a publication from the Fund’s series, ‘Contemporary Bulgarian Art. Names’, to be presented to the members of the delegation.
