‘Reading Comprehension Texts for 3rd-grade Pupils in Bulgarian Sunday Schools’ is the project of the Little Bulgaria School (LBS) in Chicago, USA, which NEF ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ approved in a the session on our native Bulgarian language in 2025.
Thanks to the Fund’s financial support, LBS compiled and published a collection of thematically structured texts for 3rd-grade pupils in Bulgarian Sunday Schools, along with exercises and tasks in semantising new words, defining various concepts, and assimilating them through their use in a new context. The materials were developed in comprehensible language and tailored to the age-specific characteristics of children. The publication comprises 88 pages, accompanied by rich illustrative information; it has a print run of 1,000 copies.
The project contributes to the preservation and promotion of the Bulgarian language, culture and national identity. Through its high educational and cultural value, the collection is in aid of the learning process of children born abroad, while simultaneously meeting modern educational standards. The ultimate goal is for children abroad learning the Bulgarian language to have a more extended and enriched vocabulary, and to be able to improve their linguistic competences.
