On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child by the UN General Assembly, the ‘13 Centuries of Bulgaria’ National Endowment Fund jointly with UNICEF Bulgaria is launching a National Youth Competition for Digital Drawings entitled ‘Together in Art for a Better Future’. Pupils aged from 14 to 19 years may participate. The main idea of the competition is for young people to express in their works their commitment to the fate of children with disabilities and their desire, through art, to help them integrate and secure equal opportunities for a better future for all.
The Convention on the Rights of the Child is the most widely ratified human rights treaty that has helped to bring about a positive change in the lives of millions of children around the world. According to the Convention, children must be allowed to grow, learn, play, develop and flourish with dignity during childhood. In Bulgaria, we also mark the anniversary by placing a particular focus on children with disabilities, many of whom still lack an environment that helps them reach their full potential.
At the beginning of the new, 2019/20 school year, we invite you to join in the competition. Each pupil can present their creative vision of what childhood their classmates, friends, and all children and young people with disabilities would wish to enjoy. We believe that the freedom that art gives will not only inspire many remarkable artworks, but also be an inspiration for and a source of ideas for our entire society, of how we can help disabled children enjoy a happy childhood and develop their full potential.
Participants: We invite 8 national secondary schools and schools with a profile in the field of visual arts to participate in the competition, under the auspices of the Ministry of Culture. Pupils in forms 8 to 12 in the respective school should create digital artworks on the set topic.
